Comparison between Gemini Ultra with GPT-4

Powered by their most powerful model to date, Ultra 1.0, Google's Gemini Ultra, an improvement from its predecessor, Bard, was launched last week.

In the Chatbot Arena Leaderboard, the GPT-4 rival has already locked down third place. Will it be worth a shot? We have reviewed this:

Pros:

1. Quickness: People are saying that Gemini Ultra is quick. Users have noticed a significant improvement in reaction speed when compared to GPT-4.
2. The fact that Gemini Ultra does not appear to have a use cap is something that users really welcome, especially in comparison to GPT-4. For demanding jobs when you don't want to worry about reaching limitations, this is ideal.
3. Among Gemini Ultra's many commendable features is its multimodal capability, which allows it to comprehend and produce not just text and code but also visuals and sound.
4. One major perk is the ability to integrate with other Google products, such as Gmail, Maps, and maybe even more. This makes life much easier for people who are already invested in the Google ecosystem.

Cons:

1. Problems with Task Consistency: Some users have reported that Gemini Ultra would not complete even the most basic tasks on occasion. The AI's inconsistent performance is demonstrated when it can sketch a goblin but fails miserably when faced with a goblin wielding a sword.
2. It has terrible memory and context handling; users who need to keep a discussion or coding session going may find it difficult to do so since it forgets the context of the chat often. When compared to GPT-4's improved chat thread holding capabilities, this is a regression.
3. Compared to rivals like DALL-E and MidJourney, its picture generator generates lower-quality photos, but it's faster overall. Users that depend on high-quality visual material may find this to be a disadvantage.
4. There is an excess of disclaimers in Gemini Ultra, perhaps more so than in GPT-4. Although this might be a result of Google's commitment to ethical AI practices, it does have the potential to disrupt the user's flow.

Gemini Ultra may be accessed with a Google One account. There is a free trial period of two months, after which there is a $20 monthly membership price.

AI is YouTube's big bet for 2024

In a recent blog post describing his plans to empower creators and make the technology accessible to everyone, YouTube CEO Neal Mohan named generative AI as the platform's top "big bet" for 2024.

• According to Mohan, the goal is not to supplant creators but to enable "everyone create" through the use of AI.
• A prime target for evaluating new video AI capabilities will be YouTube Shorts, with its meteoric 70 billion+ daily views.
• Dream Screen and Dream Track are two new experiments that the blog highlighted. Dream Screen lets users create AI-generated backgrounds for shorts, and Dream Track generates music.

Why important? That platforms like YouTube are striving to empower creators can help change broader sentiment because, despite the fact that AI still faces existential backlash from many creatives, this backlash can be mitigated. Additionally, the discussion moves away from AI as a creative "replacement" and toward it as a creative "tool" as its integration grows.

OpenAI teases amazing video model

OpenAI introduces Sora, a generative video model that converts text into high-resolution video clips. The teaser videos promise a completely new level of this technology.

• Next-step video generation: Sora's video generation surpasses all other models in terms of realism and richness of detail.
• Technical innovation: The model combines diffusion modelling and transformers, a new approach to video generation that enables the training of different video types.
• Security and abuse: OpenAI emphasises security measures and potential misuse risks, highlighting the dual nature of such an advanced technology.
