Digital solutions key for industry transformation
As the leader of Boeing’s services business, I’ve seen first-hand the significant impact COVID-19 has had on our industry and our people over the past 18 months. This shared challenge has inspired us to work together, think more creatively and continue delivering the innovative solutions customers need, when and where they need them.
Despite the obstacles we’ve faced and likely will continue to face, we’re seeing encouraging signs of recovery. I remain optimistic about the resilience and ingenuity of this industry, and the data and projections in our latest Services Market Outlook reflect the same optimism.
Our outlook forecasts a 10-year support and services market opportunity of $3.2 trillion, split roughly evenly between commercial and government services across areas such as supply chain; maintenance, repair, overhaul, and modifications; and training. These are critical markets and capabilities for Boeing, but what will continue to set us apart – and what will truly transform our industry – is how we apply digital solutions and analytics to driving desired outcomes for our customers.
For example, commercial operators are investing heavily in digital solutions such as navigation, route planning and crew rostering to help optimize how and when they manage their fleets as they navigate the pandemic. Similarly, our government customers are hungry for opportunities to use data and digital support solutions to improve readiness and add value throughout the entire product lifecycle. We’re well positioned to deliver on these needs, today and in the future.
There’s no question COVID-related challenges remain for all of us, but there’s also tremendous opportunity for continued innovation and progress as we collectively emerge from the pandemic.

3 年“…hungry for opportunities to use data and digital support solutions” That part!
?Efficient implementation of maintenance, repair, overhaul, and modification requires more than data analytics and machine learning. And its not clear what you mean by digital solutions in this domain. Entry to the MRO market can be accomplished in steps, each with progressive benefit to commercial and military customers with considerable savings in both time and cost. The most important technology in this domain is already available and proven.
It's been fascinating to watch as the pandemic forced the entire industry to focus on value in a very raw way. Digital is massive bang for the buck and, with recovery on the way, airlines' efforts that originated as cost-out will turn to revenue-in for smart operators. It's an exciting time!
