Digital skills means everyone can get online
On the third day of Get Online Week, we're focusing on the importance of digital skills. Having a foundation level of digital skills is becoming essential to do every day things like apply for jobs, carry out those jobs, make appointments and access our money. Yet currently 1 in 5 adults lack the basic digital skills needed to do these things.
This makes people feel less confident and lonely - new research with our partners Virgin Media O2 found having little to no digital skills is making people feel left behind.
Which is why we developed Learn My Way , a free learning platform for people to gain those everyday digital skills. You can help someone you know signup for Learn My Way, or show them to a local Digital Inclusion Hub where they can get free and friendly support to complete bite-sized topics on digital skills.
Speaking of Digital Inclusion Hubs - have you heard of the National Digital Inclusion Network, a network of 3,600+ community organisations providing digital support across the UK? They're the ones hosting hundreds of events to help people in their communities learn digital skills during Get Online Week! Find out more below.
Listen to our latest podcast episode on the National Digital Inclusion Network
Tune in to hear Isobel Thomas , Head of Community Engagement and Experience, talk all about the National Digital Inclusion Network, what it is and who's part of the network, and how important community led solutions are for digital inclusion. We also explore the importance of digital skills.
Hear from a hub: Getting Oxfordshire Online
To commemorate Get Online Week, we sat down with our partners Nominet and member of the National Digital Inclusion Network Getting Oxfordshire Online . They tell us that as part of the Network they're able to access free mobile SIMs, refurbished devices and digital skills training for people in their community.
