Digital Revolution. Ideas Explosion.
There is no doubting that the digital /mobile revolution has led to an explosion of new ideas.. and we've only just begun! In this sixth edition we delve into some of the people and their ideas that have changed the world in the first 20 years of the 21st Century - post-2000. This follows our fifth edition ?where we explored what it takes to bring an idea to life.
If you're new to us it is recommended that you read issue 1: One Idea is All it Takes
About:?Trevor Nel is an 'ideas-generating machine' and co-founder of?WISDOMS ?. You can connect with WISDOMS? and become: 1. a?PATRON ?and/or; 2. a?PLAYER ?, and/or; 3. a?PARTNER ?- follow each link for more info.
When considering this sixth issue's topic I was reminded that +-3 decades ago I was publishing my thoughts on 'simple ideas to grow your business' - Confessions of a SERIAL Entrepreneur - where I identified in Ch.10 how to tap into the greatest business minds on the planet: aka How To Build Your Own Dream Team Of Advisors .
The generating of ideas is just simply in my DNA. For this reason, I do not want any first-timer entering into this newsletter series at this issue to miss out on the intent & flow of what we are discussing, and recommend that you begin at our first issue - One Idea is All it Takes - so as to establish what will appeal to you and why.
So this sixth issue is something of a virtual interview review process to potentially expand my Dream Team Board Of Advisors from the 80s & 90s to include those who have made something of a unique impression on self or a significant impact on the world in the first two decades of the 2000s.
Please note, it is not about idolizing individuals who make it big off their ideas, it is about analyzing what they do with their ideas to make them successful. I give the warning here that we humans are all flawed in some way.. some in a big way.. :
'I must warn you about one thing that I have learnt about putting people on pedestals.
'No one, but NO ONE, is without flaws of their own, or lacking a bevy of critics.
'In almost every instance of selecting someone whose principles make me think, I have also found much negative criticism doing the rounds, to varying degrees, of many of those same individuals.
'So, my only advice is to extract the good principles from such individuals that you can apply in your life and business, the ones that really get you thinking.. and ignore those weak flaws in their personalities that do not appeal to you.'
I am also of the opinion that, in a world of +-8 billion people, there are literally thousands (+1000s), if not tens-of-thousands (+10000s), and more-likely hundreds-of-thousands (+100000s) to millions (+1000000s) of people spread across the globe with ideas that have made, and will make, a positive & significant influence on someone's life. They will keep this newsletter filled with unlimited material for years to come.
Do not be fooled by the reference to just a few individuals in any of our issues, they are just referenced to remind YOU of YOUR POTENTIAL to come up with great ideas & to apply them.
The first 20 years of the 21st Century - post-2000 - instantly stimulate recall of groundbreaking technologies and business names like Amazon, Google, iPhone, You Tube, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tik Tok, Bitcoin, to name just a few, and social media innovators & influencers who created further incredible ideas & businesses on the back of the original 21st century technology ideas & businesses named above that are still shaping our world.
One idea can be the spark of 100,000s of ideas
Some names that pop up for me as of interest, with a wide-ranging smorgasbord of ideas of all shapes & sizes of relative success, are:
Ray Kurzweil - the man is simply a genius, a strategic adviser to Google and a futurist famous for the accuracy of his predictions . His work & life-story just needs to be studied to appreciate how he stimulates and implements his ideas. Called 'The Ultimate Thinking Machine' , Kurzweil is quoted as saying:
'No matter what problem you encounter, whether it's a grand challenge for humanity or a personal problem of your own, there's an idea out there that can overcome it. And you can find that idea.' - Ray Kurzweil
Peter Diamandis - entrepreneur extraordinaire - came up with 1idea - XPRIZE - that has launched over $250m worth of XPRIZES. Writes Diamandis: 'The day before something is a breakthrough, its a crazy idea. Where in your organization are you experimenting with crazy ideas?' I particularly like this quote below by Diamandis as it gets us to consider and expand our ideas to think at significant global scale:

'The best way to become a billionaire is to help a billion people.' - Peter H. Diamandis
Gary Vaynerchuk - serial entrepreneur, media marketing specialist (especially social media marketing) and canny investor in new technologies. Specializing in promoting life-changing attitudes and values of HAPPINESS & KINDNESS, Vaynerchuk is never short on ideas, and offers this valuable quote below:
'All your ideas may be solid or even good. But you have to actually execute on them for them to matter.' - Gary Vaynerchuk
Steve Jobs (RIP) - the ultimate entrepreneur of mega-corporate proportions - a technology marketing genius who needs little introduction. Just 1idea of Jobs' many ideas put the 'smart' into smartphone with the development & launch of the iPhone . His 'killer app' literally changed the world for social media innovators, creatives and influencers. Jobs has many savvy quotes for those with innovative ideas for new products: 'It's really hard to design products by focus groups. A lot of times, people don't know what they want until you show it to them.' And, 'You can't just ask customers what they want and then try to give that to them. By the time you get it built, they'll want something new.' i.e. trust your gut.. and.. speed to market is crucial. Quote below:
'If you want to hire great people and have them stay, you have to be run by ideas, not hierarchy. The best ideas have to win.' - Steve Jobs
Mark Zuckerberg - said to have been mentored by Steve Jobs on management principles, hiss 1idea was to provide a platform for college students at Harvard to connect with each other. That 1idea became Facebook (META)- 'Our products empower more than 3 billion people around the world to share ideas, offer support and make a difference.' Quote below:
'Ideas don’t come out fully formed. They only become clear as you work on them. You just have to get started.' - Mark Zuckerberg
Max Keiser - a controversial, opinionated, maverick character, said to be a bitcoin billionaire, or well on his way to becoming one, as an early adopter of bitcoin . An interesting lifestyle and ideas expressed (some say outrageous) via You Tube and TV media on the potential demise of fiat currencies makes for thought-provoking, if not deeply-concerning commentary for world leaders and traditional financial institutions. 'We are close to seeing the demonetization of the world's economies' , says Keiser in this article featuring 'Sam Bankman-Fried , the 29-year-old founder of FTX and richest person in crypto with a net worth of $26.5 billion'. Is bitcoin an idea whose time has come? One to watch closely.
Michael Saylor - founder of MicroStrategy - and one of the savviest of MIT-educated entrepreneurs on our planet, is regularly interviewed by both Peter Diamandis and Max Keiser mentioned above. This classic interview with Peter Diamandis is highly informative: Michael Saylor on Why Bitcoin is the Key to Abundance . It explains why Saylor divulged of personally holding 17,732 bitcoin in 2020 worth $1.1 billion and MicroStrategy holding 121,044 bitcoin in 2021 . Saylor provides a superb resource library - Bitcoin Is Hope - for those wanting to research for ideas on this topic. He offers some great insight on 'pursuing ideas' in this discussion at time-stamp 00:13:41.

Peter Diamandis provides the exciting conclusion for this issue from this You Tube video - Peter Diamandis LiveWorx Keynote on Exponential Tech: Disruption on the Road Ahead at 24:00 min in : '2022 - 2025 we are talking of connecting every human on the planet at 100 Megabit to a Gigabit connection speed. What happens when 4 billion new consumers come online? It's a massive marketplace. If you are not thinking about that long tail and how you serve it, you are missing the point. They're all going to want every product & service digitally on their device, on the blockchain, nearly for free.'

Technology has certainly made many ideas implementable as its enabled market reach, speed to market and lowered the cost. Like you, Mr Diamandes quote is so compelling. Interesting that most really mega ideas involve the white space where no man has yet ventured. Courage - a serious differentiator
