Digital Revenue through Platform based Strategy

Few years back, most of the??companies including the digital natives ones had the products which were used as real problem solver, enabler and differentiators across the enterprises. As uses of these platform increased and digital eco system evolved, soon users realized the need for holistic services and providers started thinking about plethora of services. That was the starting point for the digital platform mindset
Today many organizations are already thinking about platform based services
The Platform is not restricted to digital native companies, even companies like SAP has evolved into major platform service provider and evolution is definitely noteworthy. Manufacturing digitization enabling software MES ( Manufacturing Execution System) is no more just standalone product but full fledged IIoT and Data platforms. Classic LMS ( Learning Management System) has leapfrogged to LXP ( Learning experience platforms). Salesforce and Workday are no more just CRM and HRMS products but platforms with many add-on services other than their core products. Likes of Uber, Grubhub, Tesla, Netflix, Slack, Ola, Didi, Zomato, Swiggy, FB, Paytm are already running their whole business on platform model

2 年Great points made. However we continue to see ERP vendors persisting in squeezing in every ounce of additional functionality from their monolithic, legacy systems in order to retain existing clientele with upgrades and convince new clients that they have all the functionality required for their business. They have sprinkled the fine dust of microservices and APIs over their systems but can barely conceal the fact that integration with third party applications is not only difficult but strictly on their terms. Platforms will liberate the customer seeking to free themselves from infrastructure lock-in, monolithic ERP lock-in and provide systems that are scalable and flexible to stay tuned with rapidly changing business and market requirements. It will be interesting to see whether digital platforms evolve as a single vendor offering or it will be a more democratic play where clients can have best of breed that best suits their requirements.

2 年Excellent Anjani Kumar for clear articulation of platform strategy. This is the only way for non-linear, exponential growth and to build large ecosystem
