The internet is more than just a space for discussion—it’s where extremist narratives take shape, spread, and gain traction. At SecDev, we investigate how violent extremist networks operate in the digital realm, mapping their influence and tactics. We’re seeking sharp, investigative minds who can map the digital ecosystem of extremist actors and the mechanisms that sustain them

We are looking for OSINT analysts with a strong understanding of Pakistan and Sri Lanka’s political, social, and digital landscapes. You will use open-source research, data analysis, and structured methodologies to track and assess how different groups use social media and online platforms. This role is investigative in nature, requiring attention to detail, curiosity, and a strong ethical commitment to data protection and privacy.?

Depending on your level of skill and aptitude this is a part-time contractual position or paid professional internship with an estimated 20 working days (8 hours per day) between February - May 2025.

The Role: Intelligence-Led OSINT Analysis

As a Digital OSINT Analyst, you will:

  • Conduct research in English and local languages (Pashto, Sinhala, Tamil, Urdu) to identify and analyse content related to violent extremism and related digital harms (e.g., hate speech, incitement to violence, violence and exploitation of women and children)
  • Use OSINT methodologies to track online discussions, narratives, and influence patterns across digital platforms.
  • Map networks of content dissemination, identifying key public actors, audiences, and amplification tactics.
  • Collect, structure, and analyse datasets, ensuring that data is stored and handled securely, without violating privacy or exposing personal identifiable information (PII).
  • Write clear, well-structured research reports, providing insights into online discourse, digital trends, and risks.
  • Work collaboratively within a research team, supporting data discovery, analysis, and project deliverables.

Who You Are

  • A natural investigator—curious, persistent, and able to spot hidden connections in the noise.
  • An expert on Pakistan and/or Sri Lanka, with strong knowledge of their political, social, and digital landscapes.
  • A critical thinker, capable of identifying patterns, influence operations, and radicalisation tactics.
  • Fluent in English, plus at least one of Pashto, Sinhala, Tamil, or Urdu. Understanding of other local languages is an asset.
  • Data-savvy, comfortable working with OSINT methodologies, social media intelligence (SOCMINT), and structured datasets.
  • A team player—willing to mentor others and take guidance from senior investigators to refine your approach.
  • Driven by impact, not just process—you want your work to make a difference in tackling digital extremism.

Why Join Us?

  • Work at the forefront of digital intelligence, using AI and data-driven analysis to track online extremism.
  • Develop your investigative skills alongside some of the best in the field.
  • Ethically driven, with experience in handling sensitive data and ensuring compliance with privacy best practices.
  • Flexible, remote/hybrid role, focused on delivering results, not micromanagement.
