Digital morass
An interesting observation made by a close colleague:?
Before the advent of digital advertising, a certain amount of rigor was put into a piece of communication. And with digital advertising, there is seemingly endless space to put stuff out. This means there are innumerable ways to create drab work that is mostly an annoyance.?
Back in the day, a lot of attention was paid to creating a press ad. There are few reasons for this:?
a) Taking out an ad in the newspaper is costly?
b) As space was limited, one had to work extra hard to make sure the ad stood out and resonated
According to Parkinson's Law, "work expands to fill the time available for its completion." This also applies to digital advertising. If you believe you have all the place in the world, you'll try to fill it without giving much thought to quality.
But what if you had limited space to communicate to the people you're seeking to serve??
What if you tweeted just once a day??
Or posted just one blog a week for your organization??
Or used Instagram sparingly??
If you suspended the belief, even for a little while, that you had all the space in the world, how will your communication change??
