Welcome to the 4th edition of DMSOS! With 2023 around the corner we are aware more and more companies are considering their options when it comes to marketing, and where they should be allocating their time.

With this in mind, in this episode, we take it back to basics and focus on the fundamentals of digital marketing, what digital marketing is and what is included!

What Is Digital Marketing?

Digital marketing is exactly what it says on the tin, it is marketing via digital channels. The use of digital marketing and its process have become widely used across the globe and across a range of company types and industries.

The methods of digital marketing and the mediums you can use change frequently, so an agile approach is always advised.

?Why Is It Important?

If you want to reach people outside of just close proximity of your business then you need digital marketing. The digital mediums used do not just allow you to reach a wider audience but also a more targeted audience depending on the medium you choose to use.

?Alongside this tracking metrics are also useful to give you a gauge or indicator of what mediums you are using and their effectiveness.

The Fundamentals

SEO

SEO or Search Engine Optimisation has become one of the most useful digital mediums used today. Simply, it is optimising content using a range of methods and markers to appear in front of the right people on platforms such as Google & Bing, but also higher up on their searches. Increasing your chance of standing out above your competitors.

Email Marketing

Email marketing is a great tool for new and previous customers, providing a new touchpoint to drive awareness. Email marketing is simply communicating with your audience via email to promote your new services, offering or more!

Social Media

Social Media has changed the way we communicate and also has changed how businesses conduct marketing. Social media is used to promote your services, build brand awareness and network with like-minded individuals.

There are many channels to choose from such as LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Tik-Tok and more!

PPC

Pay-per-click is a paid form for digital marketing and is used to move your business to the top of search rankings depending on the keywords you are looking to rank for.

It aptly gets its name as you are charged each time someone clicks on your advert.

Conclusion

While it’s tempting to focus on all of the new bells and whistles in digital marketing, sometimes the most effective strategy is to go back to basics. These five fundamentals will help you create a strong foundation for your online marketing efforts. Have you been neglecting any of these essential building blocks?
