Digital Marketing SOS - Issue #3

Good Morning Everyone!

Welcome back to the latest edition of Digital Marketing SOS where we focus on the use of social media, and how to decide what channels are applicable to your business/sector.

Social Media has transformed the digital landscape, giving companies an easier way to reach a larger and sometimes global audience.

With the rise of new social channels, choosing where to put your time has also now become a top consideration, especially for those that have specific goals and milestones they are looking to achieve. So, with this in mind, we have put together 4 things to consider when choosing what social channels you are going to use!

Your Goals

What are your goals? And if you cannot answer this question then you need to have a think and jot them down.

Your goals will directly influence the channels you use, and also the content mediums you utilise. If your goal is to grow a targeted network then LinkedIn will be your go to. If you are looking to build a community of like minded individuals then consider using something like #Facebook or #Instagram .

Whatever your goals are, consider them, and tailor your strategy around them.

Identify Your Audience

Before choosing what content you are going to use and what platforms you are using, you need to identify your audience.

Identifying your audience allows you to move onto the next stage which is finding your audience and where they are most active. However, without identifying, how can you find them? Make sure this part of your process!

Find Your Audience

Now your audience has been identified, now you need to find them.

Where do they “hangout”, where are they active and what content do they respond to. Once this finding section is complete, it is easier to understand what platforms you should be using.

How do you find them?

The perfect first port of call would be to look at what your competitors are doing. Where is their time spent, what content are they using and what platforms do they utilise.

Understand The Platforms

Once you have decided on what your goals are and most importantly who your audience are, it is now time to do some research into the social platforms you want to use.

Should you spread your bets and go for them all?

Yes, there is some merit in this! However, time and also resources will be a determining factor.

Our suggestion would be to do some research, and understand the people who use each platform. For example, #linkedin is very much #B2B heavy so if you are selling into companies use LinkedIn. If you are targeting an age group of 18-25 then Instagram and #TikTok are most likely a better option.

Conclusion

So, which social media channels should your business use? The answer will vary depending on your industry and target market. However, the general rule of thumb is to use the social media channels that your customers are already using. Don’t try to be everywhere; instead, focus on being where your customers are. And don’t forget to experiment with new social media platforms as they emerge. Who knows – you may find a hidden gem that helps you reach more potential customers than ever before.
