Instagram introduces Subscriptions

Instagram announced that they have launched an initial test of its subscription option which is for the creators who use the platform. This seems like a route Instagram has taken to keep current content creators on their platform engaged.

The subscription update, which is being tested with a select number of creators, will enable the creators to set a monthly price of their choosing.?

“With Instagram Subscriptions, creators can develop deeper connections with their most engaged followers and grow their recurring monthly income by giving subscribers access to exclusive content and benefits” - Instagram

The subscription benefits feature:

  1. Subscriber Lives: creators can broadcast live to their paying subscribers
  2. Subscriber stories: creators can upload stories for their paying subscribers which will allow them to share exclusive content
  3. Subscriber Badges: there will be a subscription badge next to paying subscribers so they can identify their subscribers

Letter from Susan: Our 2022 Priorities

CEO of YouTube Susan Wojcicki laid out the platform's key focus areas for this year and gave insight into areas of opportunity for them to expand into.?

Susan started off by mentioning one of the key areas of focus is YouTube shorts, the TikTok-like short platform.?

Wojcicki goes on to mention that another focus area they have been looking into and have been following closely is everything surrounding Web3 as they see it as a source of inspiration to continue innovating on YouTube. Susan states

The past year in the world of crypto, non-fungible tokens (NFTs), and even decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs) has highlighted a previously unimaginable opportunity to grow the connection between creators and their fans.”

TikTok to power 2022 BRIT Award public vote

TikTok announced that they are delighted to let users know that the 2022 BRIT Awards will be powered by TikTok allowing fans from across the world the chance to vote for their favorite artists.?

Fans voting through the app will be able to do so for a selected number of music categories which are: Alternative/Rock Act, Dance Act, Hip Hop/Grime/Rap Act, and Pop/R&B Act.?

TikTok is enabling its users and fans of the nominated artists the unique chance to interact with the artists before the awards simply by following the BRIT Awards TikTok account.
