I get frustrated when people mention digital marketing as something 'new' which serves them as a viable excuse to not know it. It might be a new a decade ago but it has evolved into an industry of its own. It ranges from your social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn to dedicated analytics tools like Google Analytics.
These resources have allowed marketers to create campaigns, test them and measure their impact on a regular basis. The only reason is that digital marketing tools ensure that marketers are launched and can test campaigns in the most efficient way possible.
Digital Marketing is very much underrated and can possibly make and break your company's best ideas. Therefore, I decided to start a mini-series where we delve deeper into these tools, starting from the simpler ones and gradually moving to the complex ones.
And it's high time we realize its deep importance in our businesses. It's never too late. Start NOW with basics and strengthen your business in this tough phase.
Here are the five most common digital marketing tools you can utilize, especially in times like these:
1. Social media
Common areas of any integrated marketing strategy would be social media platforms like Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook and Snapchat are a great way for you to engage to your target specific audiences and generate buzz around their brand. If we look deeper into the standard feature, there are tools made directly for marketing purposes. These include your Facebook Ads, which allow you to run ads and track every ad's selective performance. As an added bonus, you can use management tools like Buffer and Hootsuite with these platforms, just to schedule posts and measure engagement.
2. Design tools
A key part of digital marketing is the design and aesthetic. This is common when it comes to creating ads and content for posts. It is a design-heavy field, things like alignment, typography, color schemes, etc play a major role in your brand effectiveness. You need your essentials such as Adobe Suite, Canva to execute it effectively. They allow even those without extensive graphic design skills to put dynamic images in their content.
3. Analytics
These are the tools that help you decide the next step. Once you have executed a strategy for the first time, you need to see the response and preference of your target audience. This will even help you recognize whether you are reaching your target audience in the first place. Google Analytics to social media analytics tools like Twitter Analytics and Facebook Insights, they provide metrics related to engagement and preference, which in order helps marketers optimize their campaigns.
4. Content
Interweb's biggest currency is Content and there are no two ways around it. You can use tools like CoSchedule and Hubspot. When it comes down to content creation and curation, marketers need these tools to identify content opportunities and craft engaging textual and graphic content and social media posts that will resonate with their audience. And since Buffer allows us to see what everyone is talking about on social media. That content is almost guaranteed to generate attention and be impactful for a specific event or news story.
5. Email Marketing
The final and the most basic set of tools in a digital marketer’s toolbox. They help marketers create campaigns that boost their content and encourage users to engage more with their brand. Taking additional steps like signing up for conventions and buying products, these are traditional steps that will never go out of fashion. Common email marketing tools such as MailChimp and Iterable allow you to build email checklists and automate their email campaigns. These platforms will simultaneously provide analytics for every email campaign, making testing and optimization efficient.
Working in digital marketing involves a unique mix of strategy, passion, and media savvy. To maximize the impact of your campaigns, it helps a lot to have the best tools at your disposal.
