Digital India: Simplifying Life with Technology

Digital India is an initiative is to improve life for everyone using technology. I'm particularly impressed by its efforts to go paperless.

Recently, I traveled from Delhi to Bangalore and experienced DigiYatra for the first time. It's incredible how this initiative offers a completely paperless travel. By linking your boarding pass to your facial biometrics, you can simply scan your face at the airport entry point, and your identity gets verified automatically. ?

I'm also a big fan of digital payments. With Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and mobile wallets, I hardly carry cash anymore. I haven't visited an ATM in last two months because all our payments, big or small, are done through UPI.

Another good example, would be DigiLocker (digital repository) for important documents like educational certificates, identification proofs, and IDs such as Aadhaar card, PAN card, driver's license, etc. You can access these documents easily without needing physical copies.

e-KYC is another time-saving initiative. It allows you to verify your identity online, whether it's for opening a bank account or getting a mobile connection. It saves individuals and institutions a lot of time and effort.

Last but not the least, we have all been through Covid crises. The Co-WIN vaccination drive is an excellent example (featured in my book "Mastering Cloud-Native Microservices" as a short case study). We utilized this app to easily register for vaccination appointments and receive digital vaccination certificates. It has made the vaccination process smoother for 1.3 billion Indians.

These paperless initiatives are making life simpler and more convenient. ?

I remember not long back sending those ITR V forms via india post , Now it takes few seconds with eKYC, PF transfer used to be a cumbersome process involving numerous forms , now it is just a matter of clicks. Paid the vegetable vendor today with credit Card on UPI Also the new initiative of e-RUPI / ONDC also sounds promising.
