Digital India Landscape!

I have written a lot about Digital India Initiative in my blogs & articles in magazines , so,I would like to restrict this chapter only to the landscape only with a vision Indian Government has by 2020. It is an initiative to bring in; the networked society to life even from the far flung areas & the villages of India with Broad Band connectivity to boost inclusive growth in key areas such as education, health, banking with less cash transactions, insurance and retailing outlets for farming produces along with government welfare schemes reaching to the target audience. The internet connectivity will be the main source for achieving such targets and there is a plan to have 600 million broad band subscribers by 2017.The mobile connections will have to go up from the existing about 820 million to 1.25 Billion and from the existing about 72 million mobile broadband subscribers shall touch a 600 million mark in next 05 years. The initiative will be achieved by making additional spectrum available along with contiguous spectrum blocks, affordable smart phone pricing and globally harmonized bands so that it provides a viable platform for DI (Digital India)as the operators will be able to choose the spectrum of their choice for their network. The smart phone will become more affordable to drive 3G & 4G and later 5G also or other upgrades. The circles with high data usages may opt for 3G and the specific cities with selective re-farming will enable operators to use 4G. It is anticipated that there will be about 650 to 900 Mb estimated monthly data usage per subscriber by that time. It will indeed require a significant investments and matching Digital Skills. Intel has plans to work with Government of India under a campaign that is “Digital Skills for India” to benefit 05 million citizens by the end of 2015 so that they compete in the global digital economy. Intel has joined hands with Bharat Broadband Network Ltd to build capacity by imparting digital literacy training to the personnel coming from the villages those are covered under the “National Optic Fiber Network(NOFN)”. Enabling broadband highways is an imperative of the Digital India vision and the National Optic Fiber Network roll-out aims to deliver realistic broadband connectivity to these villages. As part of this Digital Skills initiative Intel India has launched the Digital Skills Training Application that features modules on digital knowledge, financial inclusion, health, banking for cash less or less cash economy and cleanliness and that too in five languages. Digital India Landscape! 27 Digital India (DI) landscape is connecting 2.25 lakh villages across India in-order to reaching out there and bringing masses under main stream of nation development by launching various welfare schemes, farmers’ incentives and youth employment oriented programme. It is also to provide digital skills at a very large scale so that local manpower in various parts of the states & union territories are able to take forward the benefits of the Digital India initiatives by extending their expertise in implementation of such an initiative. DI has its contribution to be passed on in each sector whether it is national critical infrastructure development or launching health & welfare schemes or agriculture oriented programme or agro based industries or improving living of the poor. This has potential to attract investments of the order of $ 60 to $ 80 billion in next 05 years.
