What Is a Digital Identity?
A digital identity is the information of an entity used by computer systems to represent an external agent and get recognized in a network. Digital Identity provides authorization and authentication factors of a node when a node operates in a network. The real-world example of digital identities are passports which identifies a person with authenticity.
What is a Self-Sovereign Identity?
Self-sovereign identity is the concept that people and businesses can control their own identity data on their own devices, and provide it efficiently to those who need to validate it, without relying on a central repository of identity data.
Decentralized identity, also referred to as self-sovereign identity, is?an open-standards-based identity framework that uses digital identifiers and verifiable credentials that are self-owned, independent, and enable trusted data exchange.
As the world continues to grapple with COVID-19, there is an upswing in interest in digital identity technologies and their potential to underpin new health passes, travel credentials and other pathways to restarting economies that are effective, secure, accessible and privacy-preserving
In Production digital identity solutions powered by Hyperledger Technologies:-
Alastria ID over Red H+ : Alastria ID , a project of Alastria, the Spanish association that promotes the development of solutions based on decentralized ledger technologies, is focused on decentralized identity management. It is a self-managed identity model based on the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Verifiable Credentials standard designed to facilitate compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) for individuals, companies, organizations and entities.
MemberPass? : MemberPass is a digital credential solution that enables financial institutions to instantly verify financial credentials seamlessly across all consumer contact points in a highly secure and privacy-preserving manner.
SnapCert: SnapCert is a blockchain-based Credential Authentication platform for universities, colleges and institutes. Offered as a SaaS platform by?Snapper Future Tech , SnapCert equips education customers to issue and verify credentials on a blockchain, ensuring no fraudulent credentials can be issued in their name.? SnapCert is built using Oracle Blockchain, which is powered by Hyperledger Fabric.?
Trust Your Supplier : A single,?digital identity ?for suppliers can be shared with multiple buyers and business networks. This?two-tiered supplier profile ?approach allows suppliers to be discovered by new customers without handing over unlimited access to their data.
Verified.Me : With Hyperledger Fabric, SecureKey Technologies established Verified.Me, Canada’s leading?digital identity network ?which helps verify consumers’ digital identity so they can access the services and products they want. With Hyperledger’s support, SecureKey has put user consent at the forefront and in control of when, why and with whom their personal information is being shared. This collaboration is critical to progressing the digital identity landscape in Canada and globally.

SITA: An award-winning verifiable credential solution for travel. SITA, the leading global provider of technology to the air transport industry, and the island of Aruba’s Health Department chose Indicio to develop a privacy-preserving digital health credential for visitors to prove they had tested negative for COVID-19.
Sovrin network: ?Its independent voice, its mission of "Identity for All", its community that has created some incredibly important documents concerning digital identity, the Sovrin Governance Framework, and of course, the Sovrin Networks that just keep growing. 5 Years of MainNet with Transaction?150000 ?happened in less than three months.

Decentralized Identifiers 1.0 are now a W3C standard - A step towards mass adoption of SSI
Overcoming the formal objections of Google, Apple and Mozilla, Tim Berners Lee announced via Ralph Swick “The DID core specification is approved to advance to W3C Recommendation .” The DID Core 1.0 is officially a W3C standard, raising the prospects of decentralized digital credentials and self-sovereign identity.
Open-source digital Identity initiatives?including Sovrin Foundation, Decentralized Identity Foundation, Trust over IP foundation, Indicio, and OpenID are driving digital identity adoption globally.
The Decentralized Identity Foundation (DIF): DIF exists to advance the interests of the decentralized identity community, including performing research and development to advance “pre-competitive” technical foundations towards established interoperable, global standards. https://identity.foundation/governance/about
The Sovrin Foundation: The Sovrin Foundation is a nonprofit organization established to promote the concept of internet identity for all and to administer the Governance Framework governing the Sovrin Network, a decentralized global public network enabling self-sovereign identity on the internet. The Sovrin Network is operated by independent Stewards and uses the power of a distributed ledger to give every person, organization, and thing the ability to own and control their own permanent digital identity. https://sovrin.org/
Trust Over IP (ToIP): ToIP Foundation was launched in May 2020 with 27 original founding member organizations. It was gestated over the previous year as a confluence of multiple efforts in the digital identity, verifiable credential, blockchain technology, and secure communications spaces by people who saw the need to converge and create an interoperable architecture for decentralized digital trust. It’s the Linux foundation project. https://trustoverip.org/
A Decentralized Identity Infrastructure for Web3 and the Metaverse
With the fast advancements being made on the internet’s infrastructure, digital identity will be one of the areas where major changes will take place in the coming future. Web3 and the Metaverse need a decentralized identity management system that ensures identity security for its users.
