?? 1) Patient Design in Healthcare
In their thought-provoking article in the Journal of Medical Internet Research, Bertalan Meskó, MD, PhD and Dave deBronkart discuss the innovative concept of 'Patient Design'. This piece highlights a shift in healthcare, from being patient-centric to actively involving patients in healthcare design. The authors argue that this approach empowers patients, allowing them to significantly influence the development of healthcare systems that cater to their specific needs and preferences. It’s an essential read for understanding how patient involvement can transform healthcare experiences.
?? 2) AI's Economic and Clinical Impact
Jan Beger spotlights the work of Weiqi Jiao, Xuan Zhang, and Fabian D’Souza on AI in healthcare. Their review critically examines AI's influence on disease diagnosis, cost efficiency, and healthcare system improvements, emphasising improved service and financial benefits. Highlighting the need for more research to fully harness AI's potential in healthcare, this study is a must-read for professionals and developers seeking to deepen their understanding of AI's transformative role in healthcare.
?? 3) AstraZeneca's Evinova Digital Health
Cristina Durán's shift from AstraZeneca's Chief Digital Officer to President of Evinova marks a significant step in digital healthcare. At Evinova, she's driving forward a data-centric approach to clinical trials, emphasising early disease diagnosis and integrating cutting-edge technologies like telehealth and AI. This initiative is poised to revolutionise patient care across various medical fields, reflecting a major move towards innovative digital health solutions.

?? 4) Google's Gemini AI vs ChatGPT
Google's breakthrough AI model, Gemini, is making waves by outperforming ChatGPT in several benchmarks. Set to be further tested with the UK's AI Safety Institute following its debut at the global AI safety summit, Gemini represents a leap in AI technology. It's a multimodal marvel, proficient in processing text, audio, images, video, and code. With its integration into Google's Bard and the upcoming release of its three versions - Pro, Nano, and Ultra, Gemini showcases skills like analysing complex physics assignments and interpreting visual content, heralding a new era in AI capabilities.
?? 5) AI in 2023 UX Research
The User Interviews report, surveying 1093 researchers, sheds light on the prevalent use of AI in UX research. A notable 77.1% of researchers are utilising AI tools, such as HotJar and ChatGPT, mainly for tasks like transcription and qualitative coding. While the report acknowledges AI's efficiency, it also points out concerns regarding its accuracy and the ethical implications of its use. This cautious approach by researchers underscores the balance between embracing AI's benefits and being mindful of its limitations and ethical aspects.
?? 6) Gen AI's Potential in Healthcare
Highlighted by Jan Beger, the paper from Robert Wachter and Erik Brynjolfsson in JAMA offers an in-depth look at generative AI (genAI) in healthcare. It discusses the "productivity paradox" in current technologies like EHRs, while showcasing genAI's seamless integration and user-friendly attributes. As the healthcare sector becomes more digitally adept, genAI stands out for its potential to boost efficiency, although reliability and regulatory challenges are noteworthy considerations.
? 7) Digital Health Timeline 1989-2023
Bertalan Meskó, MD, PhD, has crafted a detailed timeline charting the significant milestones in digital health. This timeline, spanning from the field's inception to the current year, highlights key developments and breakthroughs that have significantly shaped digital healthcare. It serves as a crucial resource for anyone looking to grasp the historical progression and critical moments that have defined the digital health landscape.
?? 8) AI Enhancing Patient Experience
Tom Kiesau of Chartis highlights AI's role in revolutionising patient experience and engagement in healthcare. AI's ability to simplify medical language, customise patient communication, and enhance proactive care management is transformative. It significantly contributes to genetics and family history analysis, leading to better healthcare outcomes. This progress in AI technology paves the way for more personalised, efficient, and impactful healthcare delivery.
?? 9) Addressing the Gender Pain Gap
Dr Michelle Griffin article, shared by Femovate by Guidea , highlights the significant gender pain gap in healthcare. It reveals that women often face longer delays than men in receiving diagnosis and treatment for pain. This issue stems from systemic biases, leading to a misunderstanding and dismissal of women's pain. The article calls for a critical reassessment of how women's health issues, especially pain, are addressed in the healthcare system.
?? 10) Gulf Nations' Healthcare Revolution
Healthcare development in Middle Eastern countries like Saudi Arabia and the UAE showcases significant advancement through heavy investments and tech innovations, leading to improved healthcare access and longevity. Yet, disparities, especially in rural healthcare access, persist. This evolution underscores the region's focus on health as a pivotal part of national development strategies.

10 个月Thank you for mentioning our article on Patient Design, Martin Sandhu. This is a long-held belief for Dr Meskó and me, and it's *exploded* with the advent of LLMs. We're starting to see patients pursuing their interests *autonomously*, progressing much further down the knowledge pathway without placing any burden on the health system. This will only increase in the coming months and years.
