According to Computer Weekly, fraud and scam complaints in the UK have hit a record high, with 8,734 cases reported from April to June 2024. Primarily involving authorised push payment (APP) scams. The Contingent Reimbursement Model (CRM) code does not cover many victims, limiting their chances of reimbursement. However, upcoming regulations will require banks to repay victims unless there’s gross negligence. Banks are encouraged to enhance fraud detection and security measures to tackle the surge in fraud cases.?

The rise in fraud and scam complaints in the UK highlights the increasing need for advanced investigative services, such as those offered by digital forensics providers. They play a pivotal role for businesses to help recover crucial evidence, analyse digital devices, and support the identification of fraud perpetrators. As fraud schemes grow more sophisticated, services that can track digital footprints and uncover hidden activities are vital in addressing cases like authorised push payment (APP) scams, helping businesses and individuals seek justice and recover losses.?
