The Digital Divide

Will digital pathology make me quicker at reporting a basal cell carcinoma or a tubular adenoma? Unlikely...
But that's not the point.
As labs worldwide implement digital pathology with integrated image analysis and AI, we will see increasing numbers of tests designed to be performed digitally. Complex tasks like Ki-67 global weighted average in breast cancer and PD-L1 CPS scoring are pushing the limits of human quantification. Here, AI and image analysis can significantly enhance pathologist accuracy, efficiency, and precision.
Consider challenging enumeration tasks, such as tumor budding or residual tumor quantification post-neoadjuvant therapy. These assessments demand time and precision, making them perfect candidates for AI-driven tools that can streamline the process, ensuring pathologists focus on what truly matters.
AI is revolutionizing biomarker testing, predicting tumors with high probabilities of genetic changes like MMR deficiency. This not only speeds up pathology workflows but also sets a new standard of care. Digital labs embracing these tools will maintain accuracy and efficiency, while those with analog methods will struggle to keep up.
So, why go digital in 2024?
Not to sign out tubular adenomas quicker—but to stay current with the latest advancements and ensure we're equipped with the essential tools to provide the best patient care.

6 个月Well said—-we are Starting our calidation this week —-having planned this for 2+ years I can say that IT IS A HUGE change when we get into the details—-and all of the future diagnostic tech needs the prerequisite building block of going fully digital. Not partially, not “focally” hehe—-fully. Also endless benefits of QA and collaboration are huge huge bonuses
