4. India's Self-Declaration Certificate: What Advertisers Need to Know (Important Update)?

The Indian advertising industry is currently adapting to a significant change: the Supreme Court's mandate requiring a "Self-Declaration Certificate" (SDC) for all advertisements. This new regulation aims to increase transparency and accountability within the advertising space. While agencies are working towards compliance, concerns have been raised regarding the increased workload, logistical challenges, and potential for misuse by unethical players.?

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) is actively addressing these concerns through collaboration with industry stakeholders. As of June 25th, a new advisory has been issued, limiting the requirement for SDCs to food and health advertisements. Additionally, advertisers in these sectors only need to submit annual SDCs rather than one for every ad released.?
