How to improve your LinkedIn profile views

LinkedIn is one of the most powerful networking and job seeking social media tools available. Recent numbers indicate LinkedIn currently has over 706 million users, across 200 countries and regions worldwide. LinkedIn's community reach includes 50M + listed companies and 20M + open jobs opportunities. To stand out from others there are a range of subtle changes you can make, increasing traction on your profile views and further increasing your personal brand presence online.

Keep your details up to date

Including up to date information on your current direct reports, national or international reach will help viewers understand your seniority. If you’ve been promoted within your role is important that this achievement is captured on your profile, as this speaks to your ability to perform in your current commercial landscape. As LinkedIn can be view on an anonymous basis, it’s important that your current information is descriptive, for recruiters to understand the scope of your skill base, alongside potential clients as social media overall is a marketing tool that should be utilised in communicating your corporate narrative to the public.

Commercial profile picture

According to reports, LinkedIn profiles that include a photo are a lot more likely to grab the attention of other users—including recruiters. A high-res professional image that reflects your work self well is critical in capturing the readers attention. A corporate profile picture will make people feel more confident as they are able to put a face to the name. This is one of the first points that readers will be drawn to once they land on your profile and first impressions are vital. As a guideline the picture should only include yourself from the shoulders up and have a black and whole background ideally, promoting a neutral corporate outlook to all viewers.

Company logos

When outlining your past positions on LinkedIn be sure to include all past company logos, as this gives more information and viewers are likely to recognise a company logo either consciously or subconsciously. Including all company logos within your page improves the overall reading experience for the viewer and helps to connect the dots on your past industry experience to date.

Descriptive career summary

Some executives skip the summary section of their profile or keep it very brief, resulting in a missed opportunity. The summary section will add further value through flagging your profile within LinkedIn algorithm boolean searches. This will boost search results for the Consultants that have the right opportunities for you to explore. It’s important to make sure to have a summary that describes your key skills/technical abilities and key achievements, as when recruiters are searching for talent they will include keywords to help refine the key search criteria

Complete the skills section

LinkedIn allows you to add up to 50 skills . LinkedIn will offer suggestions of skills that others with similar profiles have included. Aim to include 15-20 skills that include an operational, and technical skills nature, these are searchable by other LinkedIn member and help other to understand the seniority and technical abilities of your profile.

Ask for public recommendations

Honest recommendations offer an overview of what it’s like to engage with you in a commercial environment. What others say about you is powerful, because it reveals what others notice and appreciate about your executive skill set and approach to problem solving. Reach out to your past managers or colleagues and ask if they can share a recommendation via LinkedIn to further build out your profile.

The more regularly you engage with your network, comment, like and share native content on LinkedIn, the higher the algorithm will rate your profile and return your profile within relevant search results.
