What is a digital adoption strategy?

A digital adoption strategy is a plan of action that helps businesses and organisations to adopt and integrate digital technologies into their operations. This strategy aims to ensure that employees, customers and stakeholders can effectively use these technologies in their day-to-day activities. The first step in developing a digital adoption strategy is identifying the specific goals and objectives of the organisation. These goals should be aligned with the overall business strategy, and should take into account the needs of both internal and external stakeholders. Once the goals have been identified, the organisation can begin to assess its current level of digital maturity, including its existing IT infrastructure, applications, processes and skills. This assessment will help to identify any gaps or areas for improvement that need to be addressed as part of the adoption process. The next step is to develop a roadmap for implementing digital technologies across the organisation. This roadmap should include clear timelines, milestones and deliverables, as well as a plan for training employees on how to use these new technologies effectively. Finally, it is important to regularly review and update the digital adoption strategy over time in order to ensure that it remains aligned with changing business needs and technological advances. By following these steps, organisations can successfully adopt new digital technologies in a way that maximises their benefits while minimising disruption to existing operations.

Agree Gavin McWhirter. I'd go one step further - all businesses will need a new operating model to compete in an AI-powered economy. So far, we've primarily used digital technology to substitute blue-collar activity and admin work, e.g. production line robots and secretarial work. We will quickly flip into a world where a digital system can also do the thinking part - the white-collar bit. So, we'll need to develop new ways of working where the AI systems augment and collaborate in a way we have yet to figure out. On a related point - despite AI, we will not be moving to a three-day working week anytime soon. Firstly, tech has been over-promising and under-delivering the promise of shorter working weeks for decades. Secondly, China and India, which are set to be economic superpowers with economies larger than all of Europe, work six days a week and have little internal pressure to reduce that work week. Narayana Murthy, former Chair of Infosys and Rishi Sunak's father-in-law, recently sparked a debate in India. He stated that Indians should be at work or studying over 70 hours a week to improve their productivity and the economy. The world is changing rapidly, and we need to adapt to new ways of working to thrive and succeed.
