Digital Consumer Trends 2022 report - commentary

The report released by Deloitte aims to present current trends related to the use of electronic devices and changes in digital content consumption. Bartlomiej Lewandowski and Michal Stawski , Managing Partners of New Digital Street, decided to comment on some of the most interesting conclusions of the report, in our opinion.?

Mobile devices?

It is no surprise to anyone that the rate of users buying smartphones has been at an all-time high for years, currently holding at 96%. Not surprisingly, survey respondents indicate the smartphone as the preferred device in most of the activities analyzed in the report.?

Mobile banking specifically accounts check, and web browsing leads the way, with users choosing a smartphone for these activities regardless of gender and age (except for the 55-65 age group).

E-commerce-related activities are right behind. In the 2021 comparison, smartphones have overtaken laptops when considering the total number of users browsing online stores. By group, smartphones have an advantage among women, and in the 18-44 age group. When it comes to the shopping process itself, laptops are still the most preferred device, although it seems only a matter of time - their advantage is already only 5 pp., while the game in 2021 was 17 pp.

Cyber security?

Users' awareness of online privacy and the need to protect their data is growing. Respondents attribute the most critical role in ensuring data confidentiality to the owners of online platforms (56%). At the same time, only 27% are aware of the impact of their online behavior on data security. This shows us how much responsibility rests on the administrators of websites, platforms, or applications in ensuring the protection of user data. Because of this, businesses must provide their users with solutions that deliver a unique UX and guarantee security.?

Summary

The Digital Consumer Trends 2022 report seems to be another voice in line with our analysis and predictions that the future will belong to mobile devices. Users are reaching for them more readily, expanding the range of services they use with their smartphones.?

Therefore, businesses that want to increase the share of their services online must remember that developing mobile applications and ensuring the security of their customer's data should be a priority in their strategy for the coming years.?
