Digital Color Process
I have heard it countless times no matter what paint line I was selling..."your camera sucks" Does it or are you just not using it correctly. Too often people think that the camera is only there to bail them out on the most difficult colors. Regardless of how accurate your spectrometer is, a problem color is still a problem color. We have many shops that use the camera exclusively during their initial blueprint phase and are having tremendous success. The other challenge is to make sure the panel you are scanning has been properly prepared. Its hard for the camera to get an accurate reading when its scanning dirt and imperfections rather than the color you are trying to match. Our partners at Akzo Nobel have developed a process of cleaning and preparing the panel to give body shops that extremely high accuracy rate so they get the color right the first time, almost every time. A less than 3 minute process during your complete disassembly can save you on the back end in time and labor. To prove the point I took a video of that process at a recent line trial and it only took 2 minutes and 12 seconds to prepare the panel and take the camera shot. Don't get stuck in the past. Try with an open mind and you will see the results.
