Digital Clothing with DressX

Digital Clothing with DressX

DRESSX , based out of Los Angeles , describes itself as the largest digital fashion store that carries 3D clothing collections from most well-known contemporary brands born in the physical world and in the digital space.

When they use the phrase ‘digital fashion’ here they are referring to virtual clothing that is created using 3D software to build a ‘true-to-life’ garment that can be simulated to look like real clothes.

The vital piece of data driving this market is the fact that many are now buying clothes for single use or single post pictures. Barclays released research that outlined 9% of credit card users purchased clothing for content creation to be returned afterwards.

The process for users is pretty simple.?

  • Firstly they buy a virtual clothing item that is based on a previously made real life design or newly created virtual piece.
  • They upload an image of themselves with tight clothing on.?
  • Within 24 hours they receive a custom image with the virtual clothing ‘on’ them and can use said image as they wish across social media.?

On top of this they also offer a B2B programme where brands can receive images of their chosen clothing ‘on’ their ambassadors*.

For designers of clothes the costs for materials etc. drop dramatically. For brands , they don't need to physically send out clothing to their influencers and ultimately it's far better for the environment especially since the target market for virtual clothing would be somewhat correlated to those that are purchasing for single use.

DressX have already partnered with an array of real world brands with Burberry , Balenciaga , Off-White , Dolce and Gabbana , Berhska and HandM all beginning to build out their web3 presence with the help of DressX. They’ve also entered into an agreement with the Roblox game to design virtual clothing for in-game avatars. Gucci and Tommy Hilfiger in particular have been front runners when it comes to fashion brands entering in the metaverse so far. The sheer volume of firms engaging with NFT tech is a great sign for digital fashion going forward.

As DressX continues to innovate the lines between the virtual and real world will continue to be blurred. Founder Daria Shapovalova is convinced that the metaverse will be the next iteration of social media and we agree. Digital / Virtual communication is already taking place daily as we share and flex aspects of our lives across our favourite social channels. Brands are preparing themselves for this eventuality and we are excited to see the different ways fashion grows in metaverse settings over the next few years.

*Quick shoutout to ellenmcarthurfoundation website for outlining the process of the user for dress x in a simple way*
