DIG A SMILE CAMPAIGN 2017

Dear All,
This time last year I took my shovel down to one of WA Limestone’s quarries and dug a 37m long, 1m deep trench by hand over 24hours in an effort to raise funds for Camp Quality and Radio Lollipop, in the process moving over 30 tonnes of dirt (enough to fill a semi!). In the process last year, I was able to engage the support of a number of friends and colleagues from the construction world, as well as related industries and in total, I was able to raise over $25K to support children and their families doing it tough in Western Australia. See a YouTube drone video here;https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xfihDXm0Hrk
I’m at it again this year! On the 5th - 6th October 2017, I will undertake my second Big Dig, aiming for a bigger and better result and I am calling upon all of my supporters to get behind me once again as I dig my way towards my $40K goal, all in the name of charity and supporting Camp Quality in WA. This year challenge is a little bit different, new target is 50 m of trench dug in a shape of a smile which is also a trade mark of Camp Quality.
Camp Quality believes every Australian child impacted by cancer – be that their own diagnosis or the diagnosis of someone they love - should have every opportunity to thrive. They do this by providing innovative programs and services to develop life skills and strengthen the wellbeing of children aged 0 – 13 growing up with cancer, and their families.
Camp Quality are there for children and their families from the first experience of cancer through every stage, from treatment to remission and in the case of bereavement - in hospital, at home, at school and away from it all. Their belief in the proven principles of positive psychology forms the foundations of everything they do, believing that laughter is the best medicine. Laughter and optimism are essential to help kids and their families not only cope, but thrive.
In late September this year, Camp Quality will be running a three day camp, accessed by 80 children who have been impacted by cancer in WA. With the total cost of this camp being upwards of $40K, my ultimate goal is to raise enough money to cover the entire three days through my efforts with the Big Dig 2017.
Not only do I see the Big Dig as an opportunity to support such a worthwhile cause, I also hope it will act as an opportunity to further connect those within the construction industry and generate relationships, referrals and business opportunities and as such, ask you to kindly review the attached information and sponsorship proposal and the event website; www.digasmile.com and let Steve, Kylie and I know how you might like to get involved with us this year! At the very least a small personal donation will make you part of our Family of supporters.
For any further information on the event or on Camp Quality, please see Steve’s details copied below and please don’t hesitate to contact him by phone or email to discuss further.
I will leave you with a small request which most of us can do to put what I am going to in perspective, grab a shovel go out somewhere and dig solid for 10 min and think through how would your body feel after 24 hrs. The answer is Pain but that is nothing compared with what our little heroes (and parents) go though day in day out!
Looking forward to having you on board and working together to create a better life for children impacted by cancer!

7 年That's very cool - so many people talk about what needs to be done but few actually get in and do it. My friends little boy died of brain cancer last year. You are right the pain that childhood cancer inflicts is cruel, unrelenting and impacts the whole family unit . His sisters have benefited from camp quality and the family support they provide. Much respect - good luck - love it. ??????
