Difficult Economic Times Bring Unexpected Opportunities

Yes, times are tough - especially in the oil and gas industry. When we're in "the doldrums", we need to be reminded that it's not the event (i.e. economic downturn) that creates stress and negativity, it's our reaction to the event that determines our level of stress. I am reminded of the many people whom I know that experienced a layoff and when looking back, some tell me it was the best thing that happened to them. Why? Because it pushed them beyond their personal parameters of how they viewed themselves and their skills and thus discovered alternate career opportunities they had never considered before! However, opportunities don't happen magically without effort and taking immediate action. Remember, the good news is that for every action, there is a reaction. Energy begets energy. Choose to move forward.
Seven Solutions for Taking Taking Action NOW!
- note your skills - be grateful for them - what new skills have you learned recently that you can add to your resume (if you're seeking employment this is critical)
- set a deliberate "moving forward" plan of action for your day, week and month
- talk to trusted friends
- listen to music purposefully to elevate your energy and reduce stress
- play an instrument (I play the ukulele - although some may beg to differ!)
- look for humour in everyday events
- exercise: it's key to mental and physical wellness especially during trying times.
