The differing rates of acceptances and applicants to medical school among racial segments of the population

The BMA’s medical school entry data provides a good case study for all other sectors and indeed levels. Given the clear and known entry criteria — it is fair to assume that acceptances should follow applicant percentages for each section of the population. However, this is not the case — with the data showing White applicants consistently indexing 110 (i.e. 10% above an equal flow) whilst Black applicants index 50 and Asian applicants index 84. Interestingly the highlighted numbers show that indices over 100 are prevalent when the applicant is White or mixed White i.e. White and Asian or White and Black.
