Different types of Packaging Machines and their uses
The term packaging machine is a broad term and it covers a wide-range of machines covering many industries. There're hundreds of packaging machines from large to small. These machines can fill liquids, wrap and weigh products, protect products throughout the entire logistics chain etc. Here are some of the packaging machines and their uses-
Accumulators- Accumulators are placed at the end of a packaging line to sort and gather finished products. They save space by rotating products in a collection area.
Air Pillow Machines- Air pillow machines blow air into pouches to create an air pillow. These air pillows are then used to cushion products during logistics. The air reduces empty spaces within the package and keeps products from moving during transit.
Bag Openers- Bag openers insert air to open different bags. This machine is used for high-speed bag filling operations. Most bags are wicketed or are bags on rolls. Bag openers blow the bag open and then products are inserted for packaging.
Bag Sealers- Bag sealers are used to completely enclose bags made from various materials. The term “bag sealers” includes different machines all designed to fully secure and seal bags. Most bag sealers are flat wire seals that make wider and powerful seals.
Bagging Machines- Bagging machines put products into bags after being opened. Bagging machines allow operators to have same amounts of products placed into bags every time.
Capping Machines- Capping machines are used with jugs, bottles, and jars to apply lid caps after the product fills the container. These machines for large automated packaging lines can cap thousands of products per hour.
Carton Sealers- Carton sealers use tape to close boxes. As the box moves through the carton sealer, the tape is applied. Top and bottom carton sealers seal all open box sides.
Case Erectors- Case erectors form flat boxes and fold them for products to be inserted into. Generally placed at the start of a packaging line before a carton sealer for boxes to move along a conveyor and be packed.
Checkweighers- A checkweigher with the use of a conveyor belt, precisely matches the weight of a product as it passes by on a conveyor belt. The conveyor will stop if products are not matched with the desired weight.
Conveyors- Conveyors move products from one location to another desired location. They can be used anytime within a packaging line. Consistent packaging lines are fully automated with conveyors from start to finish. They are one of the most important parts of a fully automated packaging line.
Filling Machines- Filling machines are used with liquids and gels to insert a consistent amount of liquid into a bottle, jar, or another container.
Flow wrappers- Flow wrappers are used for wrapping food products all over the globe. Products wrapped with a flow wrapper have the easy tear rigid edges. These machines are used for high-speed packaging applications.
Labelers- Labelers are used to apply labels to packages, products, containers, and more. It can be handheld and used in a warehouse for labeling products' boxes or they can also be on a packaging line to put labels to finished products.
Lidding Machine- A lidding machine is used to seal a lid over products to ensure they have not been opened before consumption. Sealed lids are found under the cap of many bottles containing liquids.
Overwrappers- Composed of a thin PVC film, a tray, and heat pad, overwrappers are used to wrap many types of meat, vegetables, and fruits to protect these consumable products from insects, dust, and other external elements. High-speed overwrappers can wrap hundreds, even thousands of products per hour.
Scales- A scale is used to weigh products or a collection of them within a fully automated packaging line. They're also play an important part in packaging and shipping products via parcel or freight as all outgoing products are needed to measured and weighed before shipping via parcel.
Strapping Machines- Strapping machines are used for bundling multiple items together. A polypropylene strapping is wrapped around products to increase strength or attach multiple products together. Fully automatic strapping machines are capable of doing multiple straps per second.
Vacuum Sealers- By reducing oxygen content within a package, products can last longer and spoilage can be reduced. Using this concept, vacuum sealers are used to modify the air within a package. They help to extend the shelf life of consumable products.
