Different Types of #DataCenters You Should Know!

Any computing environment, no matter how organized or not, has been called a data center. Although, data centers can be classified in a variety of ways. In addition, data centers must be designed so that they meet end-user demands based on the characteristics of each #IT network.

Various types of data centers and their functions are briefly discussed here.

Types of Data Centers

Depending on the destination, there are four different types of data centers, each designed for a specific business model and has its operational problems and issues:

  1. Corporate Data Centers
  2. Data Centers that Provide Turnkey Solutions
  3. Data Centers that Use the Technology of Web 2.0.
  4. Web Hosting Data Centers

?Below are some options that may vary significantly between data centers:

  • Bandwidth type (internal, external, or mixed)
  • The use of Layer 2 (L2) and/or Layer 3 (L3) for traffic control at the center or the periphery (Top of Rack)
  • Data storage technology
  • Level of server virtualization
  • The overall size of the data center (number of servers).

Types of Data Centers Explained:

1.??????Corporate Data Centers

The corporate data center is on-premise hardware that helps a company with data storage, management, and IT operations.

As a company's critical engine, the corporate data center gives users complete control over their data and environment, lowering business risks and increasing productivity.

In the development of corporate data centers, there are two significant trends:?

  • The growing use of server virtualization technologies makes more efficient use of hardware resources.?
  • The transition to mixed networks that combine LAN Technology-based Ethernet and fiber-optic network storage or SAN.?

2.??????Data Centers That Provide Turnkey Solutions

A data center that has been fully designed, supplied, built, or installed and is ready to use is a Turnkey data center. The phrase implies that the end user only needs to turn a key to begin using the product or service.

Turnkey data center helps customers to skip the time-wasting and expensive process of identifying suitable space and developing it into usable data center space. Instead, demand-driven speculative investments exist in "plug-in ready" data center space for clients with immediate requirements.

3.??????Data Centers That Use the Technology of Web 2.0

Portals and companies that use Web 2.0 technology have very different requirements (data centers are typically open structures designed to provide interactive services such as search, games, or social networks). Portal data centers primarily serve domestic bandwidth, allowing users to access applications and information from various sources while attempting to keep it within the switch (ToR) whenever possible, a cluster, or a specific data center.

Portals, being primarily physical environments, use L2 services on the periphery (ToR) and L3 services in the center. In addition, they typically employ local data storage systems (with limited use of the Internet protocol in some systems).

4.??????Web #Hosting Data Centers

Large corporations provide hosting services with tens of global data centers or small businesses with a few dozen customers. Because of their adaptability, these data centers offer their clients a wide range of services to support computer infrastructure, which is determined by the relevant service level agreements (SLAs) and primarily serves external bandwidth. Because of their extensive use of virtualization technologies, they use the L2 network topology to migrate virtual machines, which generates additional internal traffic.

Wrapping Up

Your organization, website, and budget will help you choose the type of #data center for your organizational requirements.

Protocols such as iSCSI, NFS, or other appropriate Internet protocols are used to store data in these data centers.

We can conclude the networking capabilities of each type of data center based on all this information.
