A Different Kind of Ghosting

I lost a client who will go dark in coming days because they couldn’t collect debts owed to them.

So, when is it time to go Alec Baldwin on the Paparazzi mad? Or do you just stay chill, demand your money and hope for the best, like the Democrats ;)

I’ve spoken to other entrepreneurs who just worry and say nothing. But seriously? Where does that get you? (Not to be bleak, but early death from stress?) I believe there is a way to do this with care, but when someone straight up ignores you, then what?

As a one person show, it’s one thing, scary, but what do you have to lose by demanding pay for a service you have already provided? When you are a brick-and-mortar business, it’s another thing.

Maybe you hire a collection agency? But have you ever been harassed by one of those? Back when I was a talent agent and 9-11 hit, I wasn’t getting paid, or able to pay my bills. I had a collector tell me they were coming to my neighborhood to knock doors to tell everyone what a loser I was. And I believed it! Oh, the good ol’ days of bluster.

But as folks become desperate when the economy is sketchy, where do we turn? I always go for the: try 3 times method. Then I get bold. At that point, what do you have to lose. Of course, it’s terrifying and so sad to lose your business and livelihood, I’ve been there.
