A Different Happily Ever After??
If you recently separated from your partner, rest assured you're not alone. January is known as "divorce month" as 1 in 5 couples separate or divorce after the holidays.
I was surprised to learn this statistic upon starting my estate planning practice many years ago, but it makes sense: holidays are the most stressful time of the year (even though they should be the most joyful) and that combined with "new year, new me" means re-evaluating relationships.
If you do fall into this category, I'm sending you all the good vibes in this new journey you're embarking on.
Something (good) divorce attorneys advise their clients is updating their estate plans IMMEDIATELY, even before the divorce is finalized. Because chances are, if you've started the process, you don't want your (soon-to-be-ex) spouse making life-impacting decisions on your behalf if something were to happen to you.
Check out my most recent blog on the five changes you need to make to your estate plan documents if you're getting divorced for a comprehensive guide on what to do next.
If you don't have any documents in place, we need to meet ASAP!
When you're ready, book a free 15-minute chat and we can discuss working together.
Most importantly, make sure you're taking care of yourself during this time (I know what you're thinking, easier said than done ??) but truly, it's vital now more than ever.
Surround yourself with the right support people, ensure you're taking care of your body and mind, and accept that no one is ever ready for this life change and you don't owe an explanation to anyone.
