Differences of Pneumatic ball valve single action and double action
Pneumatic ball valve is composed of cylinder and ball valve two parts. The cylinder as a driving component, the output shaft provides power, drives the ball core of the ball valve to rotate, to realize the switch of the pipeline, adjust, change the flow direction and other functions. For example: pneumatic O-cut ball valve. Pneumatic V-bore regulating ball valve, pneumatic three-way reversing ball valve. Common accessories are solenoid valve, stroke switch, filter pressure reducing valve, electric valve positioner and so on. Pneumatic ball valve flow resistance is small, compact structure, good sealing, wide range of application.
Pneumatic ball valve according to the mode of cylinder action, is divided into single-acting cylinder and double-acting cylinder two forms. Common cylinder types are AT cylinder, GT cylinder, AW cylinder and so on.
The single-acting cylinder has a return spring, and the air source pressure enters the cylinder through the solenoid valve to push the piston action, while the piston compresses the spring to store energy. After the air pressure is discharged from the cylinder by the solenoid valve, the spring pushes the piston action to drive the ball core of the ball valve to automatically reset and keep the state closed or open.
There is no return spring in the double-acting cylinder, relying on the power and power loss of the solenoid valve, switching the direction of the solenoid valve gas supply to achieve the reciprocating switch action of the cylinder, driving the ball valve to open or close.
The difference between :
1. Whether there is a return spring in the cylinder. There is a return spring in the single acting cylinder and no return spring in the double acting cylinder.
2. Different solenoid valves are selected. The single-acting cylinder is equipped with a two-position three-way solenoid valve, and the double-acting cylinder is equipped with a two-position five-way solenoid valve.
3. The same diameter ball valve is equipped with different cylinder sizes. Single acting cylinder not only to consider the ball valve torque, medium pressure, and coupled with the spring thrust, so the cylinder diameter is larger. There is no spring in the double acting cylinder, and the inner diameter of the cylinder is smaller when the ball valve is of the same caliber.
4. Different manual switch mechanisms are installed. There is a spring inside the single-acting cylinder, and the torque of the manual switching mechanism of the single-acting cylinder is greater than that of the double-acting cylinder, because the torque generated by overcoming the thrust of the spring is also added. A double acting cylinder without a spring is smaller.
5. Different implementation functions. The single acting cylinder can realize the automatic reset of the valve in the air source failure, the air source is not under pressure, and the ball valve remains open or closed. The switching state is very important for the safety of the production process, and the single acting pneumatic ball valve must be selected at this time, and the manual switching mechanism is added. The double-acting pneumatic ball valve is used in the on-off state, which is not very important for production safety.
6. Cylinder output torque curve is different. The output torque of the single acting cylinder spring decreases gradually with the rotation of the output shaft. Minimum torque is still required to keep the ball core capable of driving the ball valve turning. The output torque of the double-acting cylinder is constant in a straight line and increases with the increase of the air source pressure.

7. Different cylinder costs. The cylinder with the same bore has a high cost of single acting cylinder because it needs to add a return spring. Double acting cylinders cost less.
