The Differences between Radar Level Gauges and Ultrasonic Level Gauges

Radar level meter and ultrasonic level meter have some differences in working principle, use occasion, measurement range, measurement accuracy, installation method and price.
1.Working principle:
? Radar level meter: using electromagnetic waves for measurement, electromagnetic waves are emitted through the antenna, these waves are reflected by the surface of the measured object, and then received by the antenna, according to the propagation time of electromagnetic waves to determine the liquid level height.
? Ultrasonic level meter: Based on the principle of sound wave measurement, by transmitting high-frequency pulsed sound waves and receiving the signal reflected back, to calculate the distance between the sensor and the measured object.
2.Application:
? Radar level meter: suitable for high temperature, high pressure, vacuum or large steam environment, and the dielectric constant of the medium has certain requirements.
? Ultrasonic level meter: suitable for atmospheric pressure field, the temperature of the probe can not withstand high temperature is basically not higher than 100℃, and the temperature and pressure of the field medium also have an impact on the ultrasonic speed.

3.Measuring range:
? Radar level meter: the range can reach 0-100 meters.
? Ultrasonic level meter: the range can only meet 0-30 meters.
4.Measurement accuracy:
? Radar level meter: accuracy is much higher than the accuracy value of ultrasonic level meter, usually up to millimeter level.
? Ultrasonic level meter: The measurement accuracy may be affected by the characteristics of the medium (such as viscosity, density, etc.).
5.Installation mode:
? Radar level meter: can be installed directly, no additional pipeline installation is required, reducing measurement costs.
? Ultrasonic level meter: Generally the use of scaffolding requires a separate design pipeline, installation and maintenance will be more troublesome.
6.Price:
Radar level meter: The price is generally higher than the ultrasonic level meter, but some large range ultrasonic level meters, its price is not low.
