Difference between Switchover and Failure in Data Guard

Difference between Switchover and Failure in Data Guard

In most of the interviews a question is asked related to Data Guard which is:

What is the difference between Switchover and Failure?

Now most of the time and most of the unexperienced candidates just answers this question

"Switchover is the role transition between Primary and Standby intentially While Failure is the role transition between Primary and Standby in situation of disaster."

I am 100% agree with this but I would like you all to add this as well that Incase of Switchover both the Primary and Standby are avaliable but incase of Failure the primary is not avaliable as it is destroyed with disaster so in Failure situation we have just Standby by has transitioned to Primary.

Summary of the discussion is that incase of Switchover both the Primary and Standby are avaliable while incase of Failure just standby is avaliable

which is transitioned to Primary.
