The difference between sales and technical engineer?

I am not even sure that is the right title, but I am also open to a healthy chat if you don't agree.

In the world of technology, there are so many different kinds of sectors, sales executives and technical engineers play critical but different yet distinct roles. Both roles have their own set of skills and strengths. Which is why I believe they are a dynomite team, together.

Sales Executive:

  • Role: Sales executives are responsible for selling ERP solutions to clients. They lead the customer through the sales process, understanding their needs, presenting the benefits of the ERP system, and ultimately closing the deal.
  • Expertise: They have a deep understanding of the product and its features, as well as strong sales skills to effectively communicate the value proposition to potential customers.
  • Support: Sales executives can support technical engineers by providing them with insights into customer needs and expectations, which can help tailor the technical solution to meet those requirements.

Technical Engineer:

  • Role: Technical engineers are responsible for the implementation, customization, and technical support of the technology systems. They work on the technical aspects of the system, ensuring it meets the customer's requirements and integrates smoothly with their existing systems.
  • Expertise: They have a high level of technical expertise in for example, an ERP system, and understanding the software architecture, database structures, and programming languages involved.
  • Support: Technical engineers can support sales executives by providing them with technical insights into the capabilities and limitations of the technology, which can help manage customer expectations and address any technical concerns during the sales process. While sales executives and technical engineers support each other in the tech world by providing complementary expertise, their roles are fundamentally different. Sales executives focus on selling the product and understanding customer needs, while technical engineers focus on implementing and supporting the technical aspects of the product.

Staying curious and continuously learning are key aspects of being successful in sales. The sales landscape is constantly evolving, so keeping up with new trends, technologies, and strategies is essential. By continuously learning, sales executives can improve their ability to understand customer needs, effectively communicate the value of their product or service, and ultimately close more deals. Additionally, learning how to vet a customer is crucial for identifying the right opportunities and focusing efforts on leads that are more likely to convert.
