Usually, they have already been in your place and can speed up the path to success and help you avoid pitfalls. They made the mistakes you don't want to make and will ensure you don't make them as well.
The problem is, sometimes we pick the wrong mentors. Or even worse, the environment around us picks the for us, as in my case growing up.
