The difference between copywriting and content writing.

How would you best describe the role of content creation in the business world?

The analogy that comes to mind is to think of how the earth and the other planets revolve around the sun. That’s just about how all things business, now, revolves around content.

Content creation is an important part of digital marketing, and that is why companies, entrepreneurs, and small businesses invest so much in it.

Why?

Because:

  1. It is how your target audience knows about you and your product.
  2. It is how you get visibility, which drives sales, eventually leading to an increase in revenue.

However, do you know that not all forms of content creation are the same?

I know that surprised look on your face!

Here's the thing-- there's copywriting and then there is content writing.

Do you know what differentiates both?

PURPOSE??

While they share similarities in “writing,” purpose separates both as they are used to achieve different results.

Copywriting

Copywriting is a form of text content whose purpose is to persuade an audience to make a buying decision. The intent with a copy is to sell.

The length of a copy is not usually long. It could even be as few as two lines.

?Examples of copywriting include; Product ads, social media ads, pay-per-click ads, landing pages, sales emails, etc.

Content writing

On the other hand, content writing is a form of text content whose purpose is to educate, enlighten, inform or entertain the reader.

Content writing is organic and can also be used for selling purposes, but that is not its main job. They are mostly long, usually between 300 – 2500 words or more, depending on what the content is about.

?Examples of content writing; social media posts, blog posts, newsletters, news articles, e-books, whitepapers, company website, etc.
