The difference between cast rolling and hot rolling

Casting - CC; hot rolling – DC

Hot rolling and cast rolling represent different processing methods, the main differences are as follows:

1. Differences in production varieties

The hot rolling method has a flexible production process and can produce a full range of alloy products with a wide range of applications. Casting and rolling products have a small application range, and are only suitable for producing a small number of alloy strips such as 1 series, 3003, 5005, and 8011.

2. Differences in deep processing performance

The middle layer of the cast-rolled billet is a casting structure with a feather-shaped columnar grain distribution; while the hot-rolled strip is a processed structure that has undergone more than 90% deformation, and synchronous recrystallization is carried out during the hot-rolling process, so the grains of the hot-rolled billet are fine and dense, each Uniform performance. The resulting problem is that there is a large gap between the casting and rolling method and the hot rolling method in the deep processing performance of the product.

3. Differences in microstructure and grain uniformity

The hot-rolled billet can also weld some defects of the ingot, such as porosity, shrinkage cavity and intergranular microcracks, etc., without causing internal structural defects in subsequent processing; while cast-rolled strips do not have this advantage, and in Casting defects cannot be completely eliminated in the subsequent processing. When rolling thinner strip products, defects such as capillary cracks are prone to occur, which affects the processing quality of the product.

Compared with the hot-rolling method, the cost of the casting-rolling method is much lower, which is mainly reflected in the fact that the hot-rolling method needs to invest in a relatively high-investment heating furnace and hot-rolling mill. Moreover, the short processing process of the casting-rolling method makes it more advantageous than the hot-rolling method in reducing metal loss and improving yield.
