The Difference between an Acquaintance and an Advocate

In today’s article, I want to reflect on what has been the most effective thing I have done this past year to grow my business. Without a doubt, my Strategic Partners have been more helpful to me than anything else I have done. So I want to take a minute and thank each of them by name: Jeff Farren, Ron Brumbarger, Stephanie Ewing, Jesse Jett, Matt Peelen, Andrew Curtis, Carol Greer, & Rob Stubbs. These people are so generous with their time and their introductions and I owe my business to them. Besides making introductions for me they provide me with invaluable advice and encouragement.
I recently came to understand that there is a huge difference between an Acquaintance and an Advocate. Most of us have lots and lots of Acquaintances. But the magic happens when we develop these relationships more deeply so that we gain an Advocate. Advocates lean into each other. They look out for each other. They seek the best for each other.
I am so thankful for the Advocates in my life. In addition to my Strategic Partners, my wife, Carol, is my biggest Advocate.
