Diet is more than what you eat. It is what you consume, including your media, beverages, music, social media, your environment, what you think, the people you are around, and many other things. According to Dicitonary.com, diet is anything that is partaken of or habitually provided. All the things you do every day is your diet.
Nutrition refers to the ingestion of foods and their relationship to health (Luck, 2009). Nutrients are chemicals in food that are used by the body and must be derived from the diet (Youdim, 2013). Proper nutrition results primarily from food choices. Proper digestion, absorption, metabolism, and elimination require high-quality foods that contain optimum nutrients (Eliopoulos, 2009).?
Our diet is the nutrients we need for growth and repair, helping us to stay strong and healthy and help to prevent diet-related illnesses. Many of us have a diet full of negativity and error.?Negativity is natural and an actual physical pathway in your brain. The science of positivity demonstrates why mammal’s brains tend to go negative unless a simple adjustment is built. Negativity feels good to our old circuits, but we can build new, positive circuits. It starts with the feedback error messages we receive from our diet. Error is how we know that what we consume isn’t producing the results we want. Our diet should renew, not deplete us.
When we lived off the land, we had little to no diet-related diseases or illnesses; more life diet-related deficiencies. Now, work consumes most of our lives and is demanding and stressful. Our diet is the key to reducing stress. When your body is in a chronic state of stress, it produces cortisol, the stress hormone. While the foods you are eating during high-stress times are beneficial in the moment, too much can harm you in the long run.?
We now leave fast-paced sedentary lives. We eat poorly, on the go, and quickly. We use food as coping mechanisms, stress relievers, celebratory rituals, and much more. Changing our diet is the first step toward changing our lifestyle. We are what we consume, so be picky and choose wisely. If we want peace and happiness, we must consume more positivity than negativity.?
Exercise: How's my diet? What am I consuming daily? Is it nutritious? Can I replace negative habits with positive ones? How can I use my diet to boost my mind and body?
