You’ve gotta love spring. Warmer days. Daffodils flowering. Bees buzzing. 

The promise of warmer days to come.

Did your mum ever do this?

As a kid I remember coming home from school to find my room wrecked. I mean totally wrecked. Worse than when my kid sister decided to throw a hissy-fit and mess with my stuff just cos she felt like it. 

What the mess meant on this occasion was that my mum was spring cleaning. And my room had won the booby prize that day. After she’d done I’d find my stuff in the weirdest places. Took me days to get everything back to where I liked it again. Thankfully, it only happened once a year. 

As you may already know, I love decluttering and I’m a clean-freak on top of that, so spring cleaning does happen more than once a year in my home. I do need to mention here that it doesn’t take a whole day for each room as it seemed to take mum.  

So why am I telling you this? Well, I’ve been sorting through my clothes, releasing some that I’m choosing not to keep for next winter and doing a stock-take of my spring and summer garments. 

Which got me thinking of other areas in our lives that need decluttering from time to time. 

Here’s a couple of suggestions for you to play with me:

1. Have you ever done a people audit? Seriously, make a list of all the people you spend most of your time with. Review the list noting whether their influence on you is negative or positive. Moving forward, spend less time with those who influence you negatively and more with those who are a positive influence for you. 
2. What about an energy audit? Here’s where you make a list of all the activities you engage in regularly. Check beside each whether they drain you or energize you. Delegate those that drain you so you can do more of what energizes you. 

There you have it; not only is your home and wardrobe spring cleaned, you’ve decluttered energy suckers as well.
