Did You Truly Live?
"I wish I lived the life that was true to me instead of the life that others expected of me."
This is the top regret of the dying...
The amount of make-believe stuff we deal with that won't matter on our deathbeds is infinite. Countless people chase perfection, seek validation, or compare themselves to others. We conform to societal norms, sacrifice for career prestige, and hoard material possessions.
Heck, I'm no different, but I'm trying to be.
Let me ask you this.. would you prefer to deal with others' disappointment now, or feel regret in your heart later in life?
If the latter seems more unbearable, then stop pleasing others, and start living your true life. It is not easy, and I don't want to make it sound easier than it is. Living a life true to yourself is challenging.
There's a reason it's the top regret of the dying.
Be happy if staying true to yourself involves letting go of unrealistic expectations. At least you lived. That's more than most do...
Because it takes tremendous honesty and courage to live a true life.
