Did you think how many Dangerous Goods are around you right now?
I was driving my car and telling my wife how many things are actually dangerous and should be handled and transported as DGs, but they never did or we do not consider them so dangerous, when she asked what DGs do I have in my car we were riding. At that moment I got an idea of creating this post about unexpected dangerous goods around us. You will be surprised, I promise.
So let's go and count how many DGs are surrounding an average human daily.
In your car:
Impressive, isn't it?
House is safer, right? ... right?
Our houses are not that dangerous as cars probably, cause it doesn't move around other houses at 60km\h, but we have a lot more chemicals in there.
I understand that all people are different, but let's just assume you could have it all:
13. Calcium is good for bones, right? Class 4.3, dg when wet, UN 1401.
14. Fireworks for New Year? Beautiful! class 1, UN 0333.
15. BBQ with charcoal at the weekend? Carbon is UN 1361-1362.
16. Do you smoke? Matches, lighters, cigarettes and cigars, nicotine are all DG.
17. Store some cotton to sew or just nana's heritage? Class 4.2.
18. Cosmetics for beauty? Class 8 or class 3, UN 1325 or UN 3139 e.g.

23. Any medical waste you produce (corona sends greetings) is class 6.2
24. Do you use good old mercury thermometers? That drop inside is 6.1 toxic.
25. Inside your fridge there is a liquified gas called freon, 3259, class 2.
26. Some elder people use oxygen from receptacles. Class 2.2 and 5.1 as well.
27. All perfumes are class 3, UN 1266.
28. Lovely magnets on that fridge of yours! Class 9, UN 2807.
29. Any aroma oil for spa or sauna or candles is class 3.
30. Use pesticides to kill bugs on your feild\garden? Class 6.1 and 3.
And who knows how many more... but let's stop here.
Do not get me wrong, I am not trying to get you scared or make you throw everything that is DG out (please do not), I am just trying to show you something out of your and my own focus in our life.
All DGs have been around for a while already, we lived and most of us survived it, so no panic please. However just remeber: UN number and DG name is made for classification, to let us know where to get information, not to be afraid of it.
If we can classify something, we know how to deal with it. Which brings us to one thought I had recently: if you dealing with DG correctly it becomes non-dg.
I hope it was interesting and maybe useful. If you have any questions, please let me know. Cheers.
