Did You Take Part In 'National Ditch Your Resolutions Day' Last Week?

Well hey there, you’re here, I’m here, and we’re wrapping up another week with a special edition of my weekly Culture Junky LinkedIn Exclusive series.
Now, you’re probably wondering why today’s LinkedIn Exclusive is a special one, and it’s because, according to the internet, last Friday was National Ditch Your Resolutions Day.
In passing, I overheard a commercial on TV that joked about last Friday’s holiday - And I had to look it up for myself. It turns out that the 17th is the date people begin to give up their New Year’s Resolutions. Statistically, it’s the day people are most likely to start giving up their resolutions.
Think about that.
Only 17 days.
With each passing week, the numbers show that more and more people give up their resolutions. But then something interesting happens at around the 2-3 month mark. For the people who keep up with their resolutions, those actions are considered habits. Once someone crosses this 2-3 month milestone, it becomes more likely that they will continue with whatever it is they committed to doing.

Now, you’re probably wondering, ‘Corteen, what does any of this have to do with company culture?’
Well, as I’ve heard from people I coach, heading into the new year, more than a few said that they planned to double down on their efforts when it came to company culture in the new year. From what I’m hearing, they’ve kept up, but based on the statistics, there may be some people reading this out there who might start giving up their resolutions today.
So my challenge to you today, whether you’re someone who made culture part of your New Year's resolution or not, keep at it.
If you were someone who participated in National Ditch Your Resolutions Day and started to slip up, then let this serve as your reminder to get back on the horse, and recommit to your resolutions.
I hope you’ve had a great start to the year so far, I’ll see you on Monday for another Monday Morning Culture Shock.
Be good to each other out there.
