Did you stop using your phone while driving?
Updated thoughts from my notes last year on distracted driving.
So... my friends who were hit head on last year while riding their motorcycle. Their life is changed. Forever.
Certainly we celebrate that they are still alive. Kevin lost his leg and is trying hard to gain a sense of mobility and being able to walk unassisted on his prosthetic leg. His arm is still not working well with scar tissue.
Lori just had another surgery as the plate in her leg that was holding her femur together separated from the bone. She was in extreme pain and is yet in the hospital.
They dream of once again being able to ride a motorcycle and join their friends on the road. They are really struggling emotionally because the healing and recovery is taking so long. I have no idea how much has been spent on the medical needs and what their future holds. A number of fund raisers were held and a non-profit has helped out with medical expenses.
The lady who hit them is facing a slap on the hand for distracted driving. For the 3rd time. The 3rd damn time. She almost killed them and has certainly has drastically impacted lives. Her question during the rescue efforts at the time of the accident was could she leave to take care of her squirrels which caused her to lose sight of where she was on the road.
Do you still use your phone while driving? Do you sneak looks at stop lights? Do you quickly respond to text messages while at highway speed? Do you read notes and emails while moving down the road?
Be honest with yourself because you don't have to answer to me.
I'm just asking you please don't kill me.

6 年Doug, sorry again about your friends. But thank you for posting and helping to keep creating awareness. I believe agree this is a huge problem. As a parent with two small kids I’m always watching while driving and am blown away by the number of people that can’t put down the phone. I believe the penalties should be tougher than a DUI to help drive change and decrease that number.
