But... Did You Rest?

But... Did You Rest?

  1. This Week's Hot Tips:

Confession Time: I'm a recovering hyper-achiever. Every day, I wrestle with the urge to overextend myself, often at the cost of what truly matters. Can you relate? Drop a comment if this sounds like you.

Last week, I was immersed in an all-day video shoot for an exciting project launching in 2024 (stay tuned!). While it was both physically and mentally demanding, I couldn't shake off the guilt the next day when I was too tired to tick off my daily priorities. Sound familiar?

A dear friend pointed out, "You don't seem to understand the art of resting." It hit home. So, here's a gentle nudge for you (and a reminder for me) to prioritize self-care and rejuvenation. Here are three reframes that I'm embracing:

  • Focus on the Real Assignment. Amidst the chaos, it's easy to lose sight of our primary goals. I'm committing to saying 'yes' less often, ensuring I end this year on a high.
  • Prioritize Recovery Time. After significant milestones, I'm learning to block out intentional recovery periods in my calendar. It's not just about bouncing back; it's about bouncing back stronger.
  • Release the Pursuit of Perfection. No one expects me to be flawless. Even in projects like my video shoot, there's always room for editing. It's time we give ourselves the grace to be content with our best efforts.

  • Breathe with Intent: Inhale deeply through your nose, and exhale slowly through your mouth.
  • Calm the Storm: Resist the urge to chase wandering thoughts. Instead, tune into the rhythm of your breath.
  • Return to Now: Once your timer chimes, open your eyes and dive back into this captivating read.
  • Feel refreshed? That's the power of a pause. Enjoy the rest of the newsletter! You are welcome ??

5. Ask Keita:

Q: Hello Keita, I find myself on the same hamster wheel. I run myself ragged to over-deliver for my clients and then I crash and burn. I recoup and then I promise myself I won’t do it again. Guess what… I do it again. I recover, vow not to repeat it, but invariably do. How can I escape this loop?

A: First, give yourself grace and space. It takes time to reprogram our minds and change our deeply ingrained behaviors.

From the tactical side, I recommend fiercely managing your calendar. Delegate tasks that don't require your unique touch. Also, try to sprinkle your day with brief, purposeful self-care moments. These pauses can be your shield against the mounting toll of physical and mental wear.

Also, I think it’s worth doing some deeper therapy and mindset work to unearth the root cause of this cycle and equip you with the tools to make the change permanent.

As our time today draws to a close, I have a special invitation just for you. If you're a B2B change-maker—whether you're a consultant, facilitator, coach, or trainer—dedicated to revolutionizing the work landscape but find yourself grappling with how to sustainably grow your business, let's strategize together.

Together, we'll transform not just the world of work, but also the trajectory of your business.
