Did you miss something?

Remember much about your childhood? Well I’m bringing it back!

What's one thing that you've wanted to try, or thought about trying, but then you talked yourself out of it?

For me, I guess there's a couple of things. First, as a kid I always wanted to be a palaeontologist. I'd settle for archaeology these days, especially since I know people in the field.

Secondly would be comedy, at least in my more adult years. Maybe not stand up, or at least not as a solo act – especially since I don’t love being the centre of attention. I'm better playing off people, though I am prone to biting sarcasm that not everyone enjoys.

A third, more recent one is that I miss soccer, though it’s also a hard one to forget (there are pictures, and everything!)

To revisit my examples, well...

I've dug in the dirt, not that I've found evidence of anything interesting. I know this doesn't really count but I realized in my youth this is a real niche career choice.

I have tried my hand at being funny. No, not just in these posts or meetings, if you've ever witnessed one, I've spoke during, but on actual virtual open mics. Some of you might even remember my mentioning this back in 2020. Did I succeed? Well some people laughed at some of the things I said, so I suppose so.

I played soccer until I was 26. Some minor MCL tearing later (do not recommend), I haven’t tried since, and I don’t push as hard on leg days at the gym. I did try softball once last year as a sub in for my brother’s team – that went okay, despite my not playing since I was 6.

I’m hoping some of you will share one thing you did, and miss, or maybe just missed doing. You never know, there might still be time for you to try something you missed from your childhood! Maybe one day I'll be talked into jumping out of a plane.

Who knows!

As always, I appreciate you. See you next week.

One thing I miss about childhood is the abundance of confidence. As you grow older, different things start making you feel like you are not good enough. So many missed opportunities because of that.
