Did You Know that Self-Care is Good for You AND Your Business?

It's so easy to get lost in the hustle. As an entrepreneur, you prioritize getting your business off the ground, keeping it relevant, and turning a profit. Then, when you're not working, your energy goes into taking care of the home, possibly your family, maybe socializing, and somewhere you get lost in the mix. But I'm here to tell you: Self-care is NOT OPTIONAL, my friends! It's a MUST!

Because if you're not well, who will tackle your business needs? Certainly not you! Before I had my most recent little one, I struggled to put my needs first, which cost me. But after weathering the recent pandemic and the delight of a newborn, I now know the value and actively make time to practice self-care.

Quick Self-Care Routine?

Getting started can seem daunting, and it's easy to make excuses as to why you can't afford to take care of yourself. So let's look at some accessible practices to help you start and build a routine.

The Sensation of Hydration

Too often, we overlook the value of getting water into us. An easy remedy is to start your day with a full glass of water right off the jump. Before you do anything else, grab a glass, fill it up, and give your body a much-needed refresh after hours of sleep and zero hydration. And, for a bonus punch, try squeezing in some fresh lemon. Then, do your best to drink more throughout the day while you're at it. Fill a tall water bottle (or large mason jar if you're feeling eclectic) and keep it in your workspace to remind yourself to drink now and again. You can also track down various apps to hit you with reminders.

Work It Out

Physical activity is a must for everyone. But that doesn't mean you need to hit the gym or yoga studio for hours at a time. Simply taking a moment away from your work or starting your day with a 20-minute walk can be enough to start you off. Or maybe you pause every hour to stretch, do a yoga pose, or even get in some situps and pushups? Whatever you do, periodically throughout the day, set aside 15-20 minutes for some light activity (especially if you're not ready to commit to an entire workout routine!)

Better Bedtime

Getting decent sleep is a crucial and easy self-care practice. Maybe you need to discipline yourself and step away from work, screens, or other engaging/stressful distractions an hour before you go to bed. Perhaps some meditation or journaling will help you quiet your mind. Or maybe it's time to treat yourself and get a comfier pillow or mattress, so you sleep more soundly? Plus, don't deny yourself a nap if you feel drained and foggy throughout the day. Sometimes, resting your eyes for 20 minutes is all you need on those particularly challenging days.

Eat Neat

Gut health and diet can play a significant role in wellness. So, minding what you fuel yourself with throughout the day can be a way for you to start your care routine. Change up the snacks in the cupboard and maybe create healthy, make-ahead meals on the weekend. Coupled with proper hydration and a bit of activity, you'll feel better in several ways.

Commit To You

All of the above is moot if you're not willing to commit to you! If you think it'll be hard to start with these simple suggestions, consider adding "self-care" to your to-do list. If you respond well to crossing tasks off for that sense of completion, that may be the best way to support yourself and stay committed!!

As you can guess, I talk about self-care this month in my recording. I can't stress enough how vital it is to your business, and I want to help you reframe how you view your care.

Client Spotlight

I want to end on a thrilling note. I am so excited and honored to spotlight AMAZING things happening in my clients' lives and businesses. This month is exhilarating for my client Tembi Locke - her beautiful, inspiring, and masterful memoir is coming to screen on October 21st on Netflix ! Tembi is a New York Times best-selling author, an actor, a mother, a wife, a speaker, a podcaster - and so much more! It is humbling to see her hard work, her willingness to share a piece of her heart and life with the world and to watch it all come to life on screen in a series on Netflix. Being a small part of this journey as her business coach has been an absolute honor - and I am so grateful and excited to binge-watch the whole series!

Congratulations Tembi!

We're entering the home stretch of 2022, so let's make it your best!
