I think we all have our favorite vacation destination. The idea of going on a vacation can bring a wave of excitement and a vision of being stress-free for a period of time. While this can be true, it’s time to really understand what can help our mental health in the long run.?
Our mental health can significantly affect our day-to-day activities and our physical health. If we are not mentally at our best, we can negatively affect our work or hobbies. Being overwhelmed by stress, anxiety, and depression can truly take a toll on our well-being, and while the idea of a break, a vacation, might sound like a fix, wouldn’t it be nice to have help for more than just a week??
Meditation is able to give us a better connection with ourselves and benefit our mental health in ways that a simple vacation getaway can not. Let’s touch on what meditation can bring into our lives.?
Understanding Meditation
Many may think that meditation is just the act of sitting in a room with your eyes closed. While this may be what it looks like on the outside, on the inside, meditation opens up a whole new world for the person doing it.?
Meditation is the act of deep focus and increasing your self-awareness. By the end of your meditation sessions, you should feel more relaxed and better understand yourself and your thoughts. Growing that connection between you and your mind can help you learn your own needs, anxieties, troubles and lead to healthier ways of living.?
A vacation is a short-term, stressful activity that we think can help us against burnout or negative thoughts. However, the process of planning, staying to schedule, and getting to reservations leaves very little room for you to come together with yourself. Meditation gives you that opportunity in more ways than one.?
Day-To-Day Stressors
Whether work, family, or relationships cause it, we all have different forms of stress in our lives. If those get built up too much, it can leave us feeling burnt out or unsure how to resolve the problems.?

Meditation allows you to focus on your inner self and brings a moment of calmness. This shift in mindset can help reduce the stress you are feeling within. Physically, meditation also helps lower the hormone Cortisol, which directly correlates with the making of stress in your body.?
Lowering Anxiety and Depression
Mindfulness is one of the most significant meditation factors and brings a more current thought process. While meditating, you train yourself to focus more on the present and the now. This can help from thinking about the past and bring out negative thoughts.?
Some forms of meditation can also help with self-image and bring out the positive aspects of life more than the negative ones. These effects can help combat the feelings of anxiety and depression, and over time you may see an uptick in your moods.?
Gaining Self-Awareness
One of the largest benefits that meditation brings is growing a stronger relationship with yourself and your mind. By focusing on the present and taking inquiry into yourself, you can get a better view of what you may need to be better and happier.?
By growing your self-awareness, you can then take steps to create positive changes in your life.
The close tie between your mental health and physical health is one we sometimes forget about. Our mental health may fall short, and in turn, our physical health will follow close behind and vice versa. We have to remember to take care of ourselves both inside and out.
