Did you know Greater Mankato Growth is recruiting residents to our community?

In today's newsletter, I provide one final reminder for the Mankato Job Fair taking place next Saturday as well as Global Workforce Program grant funding with a deadline of October 6. Additionally, there is an interesting Workforce Wednesday webinar on October 4 on Automation & Upskilling Workers including Valerie Bentdahl, MHRIR, SPHR with Jones Metal, Inc as a panelist. Next week, there are opportunities to participate in industry focus groups for the Greater Mankato 2040 Regional Planning initiative. Finally, I wanted to share some highlights about our recent Resident Relocation initiatives.

Mankato Job Fair – September 30 – Final Reminder

The Mankato Job Fair is one week away and there is still time for employers to register. Greater Mankato’s labor force has grown by 2,935 people compared to 2022 and unemployment is up by 370 so we’re hopeful of a good turnout of both current workers and individuals re-entering the labor market.

Employers seeking to sign up for the job fair can contact Brett Prescher at [email protected] or call 507-345-4537.

Workforce Wednesday – Automation & Upskilling Workers

October’s Workforce Wednesday event is being hosted by DEED Commissioner Matt Varilek . In it, he will highlight employers, including our region’s own Jones Metal, who have expanded their businesses through automation, upskilling workers, and fostering a diverse and inclusive workforce.

The webinar will take place on October 4, from 11-12 with 30 minutes of optional Q&A afterwards.

You can register here but note that there are some issues with the registration process so I had to open that link in Google Chrome for it to work. If you have any issues, you can contact [email protected].

Greater Mankato 2040 – Regional Planning – Industry Focus Groups

Greater Mankato 2040 Regional Planning continues to move forward. The next step is to join industry focus-group sessions taking place next week from September 26-28. Shaping the future of our region through strategic planning is important to ensuring long term population growth and business success.

GreenSeam Global Workforce Grant

If your organization has fewer than 500 employees, you have any tie to the food & ag sector, and have any interest in using employment based visa programs to help address workforce needs, now is your last opportunity to take advantage of up to $3,000 to help with this process. The first $1,000 covers a zero requirement consultation and solution presentation related to immigration law and HR Strategy. If your organization would like to take advantage of this, you must fill out the intake form located at the link below by October 6. This program is supported by SBA dollars so they will be unavailable to anyone applying after that date.

Greater Mankato Resident Recruitment

Over the last few years, Greater Mankato Growth and the Regional Economic Development Alliance have focused on Workforce Development. One recent initiative has been to conduct a resident recruitment campaign in the hopes that we can help our employers meet their staffing needs by growing the population of the region and I wanted to give a brief update on that work.

We have conducted 3 billboard ad campaigns in the Twin Cities Metropolitan Area with slogans like “Your drive time is our family time” and “Your rush hour is our happy hour”. These campaigns have reached 3.3 million individuals.

We also created two video ad campaigns targeted at individuals living in the South Metro and St. Cloud. These ad campaigns reached 200,000 individuals. One medium for these campaigns was YouTube – which gives the user the ability to skip the ad. We were excited to see that 2/3 of the individuals in the South Metro who received our advertisements chose to watch them to completion.

Our new website was designed with new residents in mind and the living here page includes a new regional job board. To avoid creating one new area to post your jobs, our job board scrapes your existing postings whether they’re through an ATS system or posted to a site like Indeed. This job board was designed with the relocating individual in mind and we have evidence of at least one family from Arkansas using both the job board and other “living here” and event pages. We hope to continue these initiatives and hope that your organizations benefit from some relocating individuals.

Absolutely thrilled to see initiatives like the Global Workforce Program and the focus on Automation & Upskilling Workers! ?? As Helen Keller once said, "Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much." It's initiatives like these that propel us forward. Speaking of collective action, Treegens is sponsoring a Guinness World Record for Tree Planting. It's a great opportunity for organizations to get involved and make a positive impact!
