Did you know that you can evaluate the performance of your draft beer system?

Every bar owner needs to keep their draft beer system in top condition. System efficiency is key to a healthy profit margin and happy customers.

Take the following steps to find out how well your draft beer system is functioning.

1. Measure keg yield

Begin by looking at sales for each keg. A full keg contains 1,984 ounces of beer. If your bartenders pour 14.5 ounces into every 16-ounce glass, you want to see how many 14.5 ounce portions you get out of each keg. You could measure keg yield per keg as well as per week.

For example, 124 pints in a keg leads to 111 pints sold. This is 111/124 = 89.9% yield.

In one week, if you deplete five kegs (124 x 5 = 620) and sell 584 pints, you’ve got a 94.2% yield (584/620 = 94.2% ).
